His bleak poll numbers underscore the desperate need for Poilievre to take meaningful steps to soften his image
Team Poilievre can’t be pleased with the latest batch of opinion polls. A study released by the Angus Reid Institute over the holidays found that Poilievre had theof any of his three immediate predecessors after their first three months on the job, with 54 per cent of Canadians saying they disapprove of his tenure so far. The same study showed Poilievre lagging Prime Minister Justin Trudeau by a two-to-one margin among women.
This will be a challenging, but not altogether impossible, reinvention. In fact, Poilievre showed encouraging glimpses of this metamorphosis when asked about the ubiquitous “F–k Trudeau” flags at a year-end news conference in Ottawa. “I don’t like the flags,” he said — an admittedly dubious claim coming from someone who took selfies at last winter’s Freedom Convoy protests. “But I think we have to ask ourselves: why are people so angry?”
