R. Kelly, who has faced accusations of predatory behavior toward underage girls going back over two decades, now faces multiple federal indictments. The singer-songwriter was arrested in Chicago by agents from Homeland Security and the NYPD Public Safety Task Force.

Kelly has a long history of criminal cases against him as well. He faced multiple charges of creating and possessing child pornography between 2002 and 2004. He was found not guilty due to lack of evidence in the first case, and the judge in the second determined there had not been sufficient justification for the initial search that turned up the evidence.
Kelly stands accused of establishing his own “cult,” taking control of young women’s lives, restricting their activities, contact with others, behavior, and dress, all while making them call him “Daddy.” He is also alleged to have recorded his sexual encounters with them, which he also directed their involvement in. He was charged in February with ten counts of aggravated sexual abuse involving four women, of whom three were minors at the time of the alleged abuses.
In the current climate of #timesup and #metoo, the Kelly charges may seem like old news, especially as they cover some of the same victims as previous cases, and a long span of time. His legal team and publicist have already begun to use this to try and downplay the charges, painting them as a rehashing of old allegations.
