While the new QX60 doesn’t resonate with the same vibrant personality of the finest Infiniti vehicles of old, it does a remarkably good job of playing the solid citizen.
But its opening price plays into old habits, starting at $49,650. Not a bad number considering that its competitors cost more, including the $51,045 Acura MDX, $54,745 Lincoln Aviator, $57,195 Volvo XC90, $59,000 Genesis GV80, $60,695 Audi Q7, $63,080 Mercedes-Benz GLE, $66,195 BMW X5 and others. So, while the price is appealing, it still plays the part of the inexpensive upstart. That does help with the luxury cred.
Certainly the 2024 Infiniti QX60 looks the part of a luxury cruiser, with its identifiably Infiniti front end and its soft, undulating forms. While fairly handsome, the brand is overdue for a stylistic revamp, as the soft forms seem somewhat at odds with the rest of the vehicle, which has a handsomely crisp, tailored appearance.All 2022 QX60s feature a 12.
Handling is about mid-pack, with sharp turn-in and quick responses. But there’s more ride compliance than before, with more body motions. This is not unheard of given its station and gives a noticeably different flavor from its Pathfinder cousin. And everyone should welcome its remarkably quiet ride. It makes the vehicle far more civilized.
Quibbles? Only two. The Bose audio system’s performance is best described by the old saying, “all highs, all lows, must be Bose.” But the bigger fault lies with the infotainment system interface, which is so clunky and poorly designed it’s sure to turn off some buyers. Nissan’s continuing dedication to a system that would’ve been considered poorly designed two decades ago is unfathomable.
It mars what otherwise is a surprisingly quiet, comfortable SUV.
