Peacock has canceled the QueerAsFolk reboot after 1 season.
The reboot of Queer as Folk has been canceled at Peacock. Premiering in its entirety in June, the series was created by Stephen Dunn and followed different sets of characters as they dealt with the aftermath of a shooting at an LGBTQ+ nightclub in New Orleans. The cast of the new Queer as Folk featured an ensemble that included CG, Devin Way, Jesse James Keitel, Johnny Sibilly, Fin Argus, Ryan O’Connell, Kim Cattrall, and more.
The reboot, which consisted of eight episodes, is the second attempt to reimagine the British Queer as Folk drama series that began in 1999 by creator Russell T. Davies. It was then adapted by Showtime, for American audiences, and ran for several seasons. Given that Davies was on board as an executive producer, and given that reviews were generally positive, hopes were high that the latest Queer as Folk would have a successful run.
Queer As Folk Is The Latest Peacock Cancelation Peacock has made headlines over the past several months for canceling a few shows that were seen as part of defining the relatively new streaming service. It pulled the plug on the acclaimed Ed Helms comedy Rutherford Falls after two seasons. And before that, even more surprisingly, the similarly well-received and inventive Saved by the Bell reboot ended shortly after its season 2 finale.
The cancelation of Queer as Folk, and others, notably comes as Peacock added no new paid subscribers in the second quarter of this year. As a way of remedying this, while Peacock searches for a big new hit, shows like SVU will be available next-day on the platform. It seems that, in its current state, and given the increasingly crowded and uncertain arena of streaming, Peacock is being selective about what to renew — even if those shows, like Queer as Folk, are generally praised.
