The Wanjoes will, however, have a few neighbours at Queens Bay Resort. But not many. The quaint resort, which is located just a short walk from a public beach on Kootenay Lake and the Queen’s Bay Marina, is currently just over 50 per cent sold. Upon completion, the entire resort community will feature 96 lots. Lot prices start at $75,000 and max out at $130,000 for a ridge lot.

Another unique aspect of the development is the ownership structure. The properties are not deeded and obtaining a regular mortgage via your bank will not be possible. Rather, buyers purchase a “co-operative corporate share ownership.” Your purchase, however, entitles you to the exclusive use of your site. It’s yours. Owners will be governed by their shareholder’s agreement, which an elected board will oversee. Owners can rent out their properties if they choose.
