Queen’s Park is announcing an investment of up to $1.25-billion for the long-term care sector in 2023.per day by 2025.Officials say the funds will be used to hire and retain more than 27,000 registered nurses, registered practical nurses and personal support workers.

With 2023’s round of funding, the government claims it will reach targets of three hours and 42 minutes of daily direct care for long-term care residents. As well, the care from resident support aides, physiotherapists and social workers will rise to 36 minutes daily. Another $1.82-billion investment is being earmarked for 2024-2025 to reach the final four-hour figure.

“With the largest investment in long-term care in Ontario’s history, we’re hiring more staff to increase daily direct care for residents to ensure they can continue to connect to the care they need in the comfort of their long-term care home,” said Long-Term Care Minister Paul Calandra.Ctrl+Enter
