Queen Elizabeth II, the UK's longest-serving monarch, has died at Balmoral aged 96, after reigning for 70 years.

He will lead the country in mourning as the new King and head of state for 14 Commonwealth realms. Camilla, his wife, becomes Queen Consort. Speaking about the new King, she said: "We offer him our loyalty and devotion, just as his mother devoted so much, to so many, for so long. Elizabeth's father became King George VI and, at age 10, Lilibet, as she was known in the family, became heir to the throne.

She would later describe him as "my strength and stay" through 74 years of marriage, before his death in 2021, aged 99.The Duke of Edinburgh was at the Queen's side for more than six decades of reign, becoming the longest-serving consort in British history in 2009
