Hydro\u002DQuébec would not comment Sunday on whether customers who have been without power for days will be compensated, and admitted some outages won\u0027t be resolved before Tuesday.
Fitzgibbon attended Friday morning’s news conference before heading to Laval to meet residents, alongside the minister responsible for the region, Christopher Skeete, and Mayor Stéphane Boyer.
Hydro-Québec’s Tellier said the number of employees who have moved away from Montreal to other regions in recent years is not affecting the number of personnel available to respond to outages in the city. Another man, 75, died Thursday of suspected carbon monoxide poisoning in St-Joseph-du-Lac. The Régie de Police du Lac des Deux-Montagnes said the man was found unconscious by his partner and taken to a hospital in St-Eustache, where he was pronounced dead. There was a functioning generator in the man’s garage.
“People are using devices using propane or gas to heat themselves or to cook some food,” said Simon Bilodeau, who is responsible for emergency measures with Montreal public health. “These devices generate carbon monoxide in the houses, and with the cold temperature, people don’t open the windows and doors. So the carbon monoxide stays inside the houses, and that’s how people get intoxicated.”
