No one was reported hurt or missing Sunday; water continues to rise
High water broke a dike and triggered an emergency evacuation of about 5,000 people near Montreal, flooding hundreds more homes and pushing Quebec’s portion of Eastern Canada’s flood to record levels.
Sureté du Québec Sgt. Daniel Thibaudeau said water was still rising in the town’s streets Sunday. “Everyone is safe. We’re still going door-to-door to confirm people are out,” he said. “But I want to tell flood victims that there is respite on the horizon. There is no rain forecast until at least Wednesday. It should stabilize conditions and allow everyone to catch their breath.”
Areas from Ontario cottage country near Georgian Bay to New Brunswick are experiencing flooding this spring.
