Qualcomm is debuted its Snapdragon Elite Plus chip Wednesday, as the company aims to take on Intel and AMD in the laptop market.

Qualcomm is marketing both sets of chips as AI powerhouses, saying that they offer the world’s fastest NPUs for laptops, which allows for better overall performance while running local generative AI applications. Over the years, however, more developers have reworked their apps to run on Arm-based chips making laptops running Qualcomm's hardware a more viable option for consumers and enterprise users.Google’s Chrome, for example, was a major holdout for Windows on Arm devices for years but now runs natively on Arm systems. That should help to set up Qualcomm’s chips as legitimate threats to Intel and AMD.
Apple's smartphone shipments in China tumbled 19% in the first quarter of the year, the worst performance since 2020, as the iPhone maker took a hit from Huawei's new product launches in the premium segment, market data showed. Apple's share in the world's biggest smartphone market fell to 15.7% in the first quarter from 19.7% a year earlier.
