Queensland's border checkpoints will stay until the 90 per cent double dose rate is achieved - expected early next year - with travellers over Christmas warned of delays as they cross into the state.
Queensland authorities have confirmed the checkpoints will remain in place until the state has 90 per cent of eligible residents who have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
The border checkpoints will stay while Queensland begins gradually reopening its borders to travellers from New South Wales, Victoria and the Australian Capital Territory. Queensland Police Deputy Commissioner Steve Gollschewski said officers were looking to get travellers through the border"as efficiently as possible" but there will be delays as more than 40,000 vehicle crossings are expected each day. "We expect that to more than double. That's a fairly significant increase. I've got confidence we'll get through it.
