Barley Risotto and Kimchi: A Culinary Crossroads| SaltWire #food #cookingshorts #kimchiSYDNEY — A new initiative will feature a series of markets where Cape Breton artisans can connect and sell their products.
Organized by North Sydney-based small business owners Bhreanna Ryan and Erin King, the Islanders Markets program was created as a platform for local businesses across communities in Cape Breton. To start, Islanders Markets will host a pair of vendor markets — one in North Sydney on April 28 and another in Baddeck on May 26. Each market will host about 30 vendors, chosen from a pool of more than 60 applicants who have applied to take part.
The Cape Breton Post sat down with Ryan and King about the perks Islanders Markets brings to local small businesses and the upcoming markets. You're business owners yourselves. Bhreanna, you’re with 717 The Label and Erin, you run Handmade by EMK. What do you do in your own businesses and in the artisan world? For me, it's screenprinted crew necks and hoodies. It started just for fun during COVID.
We try to incorporate more than just a market. We were set up with a food truck outside and were set up with a photographer inside to take pictures with Santa Claus. It was kind of like a community event, more than just a market. The Islanders Markets logo. The brand has two market events organized so far for the spring: April 28 at the Emera Centre Northside in North Sydney from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and May 26 at the Inverary Resort in Baddeck from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. CONTRIBUTED - LUKE DYMENT/CAPE BRETON POSTYou’ve named Islanders Markets’ main goals as diversity, being community-centred and even incorporating entertainment.
