Watts spent the inaugural PWHL season in Ottawa.
“Daryl had a great season with Ottawa,” General Manager Gina Kingsbury said in a release. “She is an incredible offensive threat that has proven herself in this league. We felt adding some offence to our roster was an important piece to the puzzle.”
However, as the day went along, teams dropped out of the sweepstakes, with Toronto seemingly sweeping and grabbing Watts, who is from the Six. Watts was one of the most exciting players during the inaugural season, being one of Ottawa’s top players. After a slow start, she picked up steam in the latter-half of the season, scoring 15 points in the last 15 games of the season, including scoring a hat trick on March 23…against Toronto.
The former Mississauga Chief burst onto the scene during her collegiate career, becoming the first freshman at Boston College to win the Patty Kazmaier Award as the best player in NCAA women’s hockey. After two years in Chestnut Hill, Watts transferred to Wisconsin, where she found team success, winning a national championship in 2021.
