“Today they’re trying to cancel our whole country, our people,” said Putin. “I’m talking about the progressing discrimination of everything that has to do with Russia. This trend is unfolding in a number of Western states, sometimes with the encouragement of the ruling elites.”
He called for the end of cancel culture. He said that Russian composers, such as Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich and Rachmaninoff, were even being removed from posters. “Russian writers and books are also being cancelled,” he said, comparing it to the mass destruction of literature by Nazis in Germany in the 1930s.
Meanwhile, Rowling has continued to show support for Ukraine, donating to help vulnerable children through her charity, Lumos.. The stars of the Harry Potters films have distanced themselves from the author. She did not appear in the recently released HBO special celebrating the movie franchise’s 20th anniversary.
