Marvel has revealed its latest slate of Spider-Verse inspired variant covers, and the Punisher’s new look comes with a fan-favorite weapon.
Marvel Comics has announced a slate of variant covers celebrating the return of the Edge of Spider-Verse series, and the Punisher is among the latest group of heroes donning a new Spider-Man-inspired costume. Each cover offers a unique spin on Spider-Man's look while still remaining true to the character they're re-imagining. With Spider-Man's most iconic weapon as part of his updated look, the Punisher's "Spider-Verse" persona gives Frank his own web-shooter...
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT In the series of variant covers set to release throughout the month of May, artist John Cassaday reinvents Frank Castle, AKA the Punisher, into his own version of the web-slinging hero. The cover, set to appear on Punisher #12 by Jason Aaron, Paul Azeceta, and Jesus Saiz, is a sharp contrast from the character's usual menacing look.
Punisher Enters the Spider-Verse The variant cover shows the Punisher using the iconic web shooters in lieu of his usual guns and comes complete with a skintight red and black suit with the classic Spider-Man webbing design. Unfortunately, Frank's regular look doesn't gel with his usual costume as well as some other heroes, and the vigilante is left looking less than threatening.
The unique nature of the Spider-Verse means that every version of Spider-Man exists somewhere in the multiverse; so in some world, Frank Castle really does web around New York in the costume above. It's possible Marvel will delve further into this Punisher in future, and perhaps even redeem Frank's less than intimidating redesign by showing how dangerous a bloodthirsty Spider-Man can be.
