Public Safety Minister Dalton McGuinty has endorsed Mark Carney for the Liberal leadership, telling that the former Bank of Canada Governor has the 'quiet competence and steely determination' needed to steer Canada through the “turbulent waters” facing the country on both the transborder United States-Canada front, and internationally.

“He has a quiet competence and steely determination, so I'm convinced he's going to be a great help,” McGuinty continued. “I feel fortunate that Carney is running for the leadership position in my party … that he's decided to offer up his experience.” McGuinty also confirmed that he would be running in the next election in his current riding, dispelling the rumours dating back to at least 2021 that Carney may have been eying that seat.
