The provincial government and SMA hope enhancements to physician compensation will increase patient access to family doctors and ease stress on emergency rooms skpoli
offering after-hours urgent care or walk-in care.
The change “is aimed at supporting these clinics to extend their office hours if they are able,” the province noted. “Ensuring patients have access to family physicians and primary care services remains a top priority for our government,” he said. “Working closely with the SMA, we have heard and are responding to fee-for-service family physicians’ concerns.”
Such changes “will help reduce the volume of patients attending emergency departments for less severe needs,” decreasing wait times in the emergency departments, the province said.
