In a report released Wednesday, Ontario Auditor General Bonnie Lysyk found the changes Doug Ford’s government made to the Greenbelt gave preferential treatment to certain developers and are unnecessary to meet the province’s housing goals.Bonnie Lysyk, Ontario’s auditor general, pictured in the Ontario Legislature in Toronto on Dec. 7, 2020.
“Provincial government actions in 2022 to open parts of the Greenbelt for development failed to consider environmental, agricultural and financial risks and impacts, proceeded with little input from experts or affected parties, and favoured certain developers/landowners,” Lysyk said in a statement.
