Lawyer Krista Fortier was appointed by the province to the Greater Sudbury police board, and she participated in her first meeting on Wednesday

One of two vacancies on the Greater Sudbury police board has been filled, with local lawyer Krista Fortier participating in her first meeting with the group on Wednesday.Fortier’s voice was absent during her inaugural meeting, which she attended in-person at the downtown police station, so it remains to be seen what her presence on the board will bring.

Fortier was provincially appointed to fill one of two positions previously occupied by Lise Poratto-Mason and Richard Bois, whose terms expired earlier this year. The province has yet to appoint a second member to fill the remaining three-year position’s vacancy. Fortier is also a panel lawyer for the Office of the Children’s Lawyer and the Family Responsibility Office, and prosecutor for both the Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks.

During his first meeting with the board in February, Lougheed urged police to bolster their Equity, Diversion and Inclusion division’s efforts.
