Speaking from outside the Brooks Heath Centre on Thursday morning, Premier Danielle Smith announced an $80-million increase to add 20,000 more surgeries in 2023-24, and $120 million over three years to expand and modernize operating rooms, including in Calgary, Edmonton and 13 other communities.Sign up to receive daily headline news from the Calgary Herald, a division of Postmedia Network Inc.

Work on existing operating rooms will involve increasing space within them by modifying the space around them. Improvements will be made to post-anesthesia care unit, surgical scrub space, recovery space, surgical inpatient units, day surgery space, and soiled and sterile storage
