A proposal by Esquimalt to remove on-street parking along a stretch of Esquimalt Road is drawing mixed reactions, with some businesses worried they'll lose customers.
The proposed bike lanes are for one section of Esquimalt Road where there is currently street parking.
“With the pub opened now, more people are trying to find more parking spots and there’s just none in Esquimalt,” said Decoutaeu., 5.6 kilometres of bike routes will be installed to connect to other cycling networks and nearby communities.parking on Esquimalt Road between Lampson Street and Canteen Road to install quick-build protected bike lanes.
“I have patients who come for Sidney, from Shawnigan , Sooke, from Bear Mountain, from all over Greater Victoria,” said Youlton. “ going to the shops, they’re going to restaurants and they’re commuting to the base. Fundamentally, we think they deserve to ride safely,” said Katz-Rosene. “In this case, the alternate routes do create this dangerous gap that would leave cyclists on Esquimalt Road vulnerable to aggressive driving.”
