McKenzie will take over as league commissioner from McKenna, who was a driving force in getting the MWBA up and running over the past three years. McKenna and others spent a year forming the league, then executed two well-received seasons in 2022 and 2023. McKenna opted not to return for another term.
She is a level IV FIBA-certified referee and is widely regarded as one of the best in the region. She handles the highest-level games, including AUS and ACAA. She also regularly officiated games in the National Basketball League of Canada when it was fully operational in Atlantic Canada up until a few years ago.
"We spoke at length about a dual role when we knew Tasia was departing and it was indicative of the passion of women in sport when the teams supported my desire to continue officiating," McKenzie said."All of this means the world to me. The MWBA is entering its third year and the bar keeps getting higher. It's not just the players that make the league so exciting.
