"At the same time, we are working closely with London Police Service to seek advice and support as needed."The demonstration at Western is among numerous other encampment protests at universities in Canada and the U.S. They are a direct response to the mounting deaths in Gaza. A total of 253 hostages were seized in a Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on Oct. 7 in which about 1,200 Israelis were also killed, according to Israeli counts.
Originally from Iraq, Yusef said his family moved to Canada because of war in their home country. He said he feels a sense of solidarity with the Palestinian people and wants Western university officials to be transparent with protesters about where their money is spent.
