Following this summer's debut of Elvis, Priscilla Presley reveals which parts of the Baz Luhrmann movie were the hardest for her to relive.
Elvis Presley’s ex-wife, Priscilla, lived through many of the events depicted in Elvis and now she reveals which of the scenes from the movie were the most difficult for her to sit through. Forty-five years after the legendary rock and roll singer passed away, a movie depicting Elvis' life made its theatrical debut this summer.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Butler is joined onscreen by Tom Hanks, who plays Presley’s manager Colonel Tom Parker. Elvis is told through the eyes of Parker as he reflects on his time spent with the singer and follows Presley’s life, beginning with his childhood in Mississippi. The icon quickly rose to fame with his soothing voice, handsome looks, and risqué dance moves.
"He wanted to do movies, serious movies, and Colonel Parker probably should have stayed a publicist. He didn’t take Elvis where he wanted to be, and that was hard because I lived it. I lived the arguments that they had, I lived Elvis trying to explain he didn’t want to do the movies with all the girls and the beaches and everything, that he really wanted to do serious things. So, living that, with him, and watching the movie, it brought back a lot of memories.
Elvis and Priscilla were married for six years during the peak of his fame. According to Priscilla, Elvis wanted to escalate his career beyond music and be featured as a serious actor. Elvis proceeded to make around 30 movies in his lifetime, but a majority of them are set in tropical scenes with women fawning over him as he sings.
Priscilla remained close to Elvis even after their divorce. He only lived four short years following their legal separation before passing away at the age of 42. Considering her deep feelings toward Elvis, it is easy to understand how it would be difficult for Priscilla to rewatch some of his deepest struggles play out again before her eyes.
