Supporting creative and unconventional methods of research towards a cure

“The Allan Slaight Breakthrough Fund comes at a critical moment,” said Miyo Yamashita, president and chief executive officer of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, in a statement. “Research plays a critical role in our efforts to conquer cancer and this extraordinary gift will lead to future breakthroughs, and improved outcomes for patients in Canada, and around the world.”

This fund, which will allow researchers to approach their work in creative and unconventional ways, comes at a critical time, as cancer diagnoses are expected to rise post-pandemic, the foundation said. The donation is in memory of the late Allan Slaight, a Canadian broadcasting mogul and philanthropist, whose many charitable donations throughout his life went to the areas of health care, at-risk youth, international development and social services.
