Police have a message for hunters and fire arms enthusiasts travelling through the city

The Prince George RCMP has shared safety tips for those travelling with a non-restricted firearms this autumn.

“We have many hunters and firearms enthusiasts travel through Prince George and stay at our hotels or with family and friends, and we want to remind them about the safe storage and transportation of their firearms when they are leaving their vehicle, either for a quick stop for food or while they overnight in our city,” said RCMP Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.Ensure that your firearm is transported out if sight, either in a locked trunk or lockable compartment.

You must also store the ammunition separately from the firearm or in the same locked container as the firearm, if you are travelling with a locking gun case. Decals or stickers on your vehicle that advertise that you own or like guns could make it more likely that you will become a target of theft. Consider removing these decals or else take all necessary precautions to make sure you are travelling with and storing your firearms securely.
