April is auto crime enforcement month

Prince George RCMP is reminding drivers to lock their vehicles before they walk away to prevent auto crime.

“It means drivers need to remember to check that their vehicle doors are locked before they walk away from it, no matter where the vehicle is parked,” states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP. “Don’t get into the habit of leaving your car unlocked while you run a quick errand or while it’s parked in the driveway. Any insecure vehicle becomes a potential target for vehicle thieves.”

Police say drivers should ask themselves, did you lock your vehicle? Are all the valuables and belongings hidden or removed? Do you have all of your keys, including smart fobs, valet keys and emergency keys? Are you parked in a well-lit, high-traffic area? , which is supported by IMPACT, the BC Government and ICBC. Each year, a concerted effort is made to promote awareness of auto crime to try and prevent vehicle owners from becoming auto crime victims.
