Despite the recent downturn in weather through the majority of the Prince George Fire Centre, the BC Wildfire Service is urging the public to remain cautious while enjoying your long weekend activities.

With the long weekend nearly underway, the Prince George Fire Centre wants to remind residents, travelers and campers of a few important tips to ensure everyone can enjoy the next few days safely.The BC Wildfire Service continues to respond to new and holdover fires throughout the region, for more information on the current wildfire situation refer to the BC Wildfire app or desktop map.The Fort Nelson zone has received variable amount of precipitation throughout the zone.

While cooler temperatures and higher relative humidity is welcome for firefighting efforts on the ground, conditions could change rapidly. Minimal amounts of precipitation, like what has been experienced in the zone, will have short term effects on forest fuels. Warmer temperatures can quickly counteract the effects of precipitation, meaning the threat of extreme fire behavior can return.
