Cougars return to CN Centre Friday to face Red Deer Rebels

Rookie Prince George Cougars goalie Joshua Ravensbergen was virtually unknown around WHL rinks when he started the season, but that’s no longer the case.

The 16-year-old North Vancouver native was named WHL goaltender of the week for the second consecutive week, the only goalie in the league to accomplish that. In two games last week, Ravensbergen compiled a 0.65 goals-against average and .980 save percentage and improved his season record to 4-1-0-0. He replaced Ty Young in the second period of the Cougar’s 5-3 loss Friday in Saskatoon ad stopped 10 of 11 shots, then made 38 saves to blank the Prince Albert Raiders in a 5-0 win Saturday. That was his league-leading third shutout of the season.

Ravensbergen’s 1.80 GAA ranks second in the WHL and he’s tied for the league lead with a .929 save percentage. The Cougars signed him to a WHL contract in April after he played three seasons with the Vancouver Northwest Hawks triple-A system. He led the B.C. Elite Hockey U-18 League last year with a 15-2-3 record and 2.10 GAA, with two shutouts.
