He is currently self-isolating in Scotland, and “otherwise remains in good health.”
A spokesperson said in a statement on Wednesday, “The Prince of Wales has tested positive for coronavirus. He has been displaying mild symptoms.” The statement goes on to relate that his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, “has also been tested but does not have the virus. In accordance with government and medical advice, the Prince and Duchess are now self-isolating at home in Scotland. The tests were carried out by the NHS in Aberdeenshire where they met the criteria required for testing.
As of now, “it is not possible to ascertain from whom the Prince caught the virus owing to the high number of engagements he carried out in his public role during recent weeks.” The BBC reports that Charles’s last public appearance was at a dinner party on March 12. Buckingham Palace reports that the queen, who reportedly is self-quarantined at Windsor Castle as a protective measure, “remains in good health.” Another royal, Princess Beatrice, canceled her wedding, which had been scheduled to take place at Buckingham Palace in May, over concerns about taking “unnecessary risks in the current circumstance,” particularly when it comes to “the well-being of older family members.
As of Wednesday the U.K. government has reported 8,077 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 422 deaths resulting from the virus.
