Participants and staff from The Flower Cart Group return newly rebuilt Pride benches to Aldershot Elementary School on Oct. 20. The benches and a picnic table were taken in for repair after being vandalized overnight between Oct. 17 and 18. CONTRIBUTED Kings Presbyterian administrative assistant Peggy Beazley said the two benches at the church that were targeted were “destroyed” with the boards being broken.Kent Building Supplies donated lumber to help rebuild Pride benches that were vandalized. The Flower Cart Group CEO Jeff Kelly said the acts of vandalism are “a disturbing set of events.” He said it appears the vandalized items were all damaged in the same manner with boards being smashed in the middle. He said group members appreciate when they can produce something like Pride benches and picnic tables that are of value to the community. Kelly said the products also symbolize the Flower Cart’s own values, and that is why the organization was so quick to step in and see the items repaired and replaced.
