The $100,000 will be used to fund an upcoming public health advisory, but officials declined to say the subject.

USA TODAYPresident Donald Trump wrote a check to donate his second quarter 2019 salary to the office of the Surgeon General to fund an upcoming public health advisory, the White House told USA TODAY.

Surgeon General Jerome Adams touching "The Pill Wall" at the National Safety Council's Prescribed to Death Memorial which is on display on the Ellipse in President's Park at the White House through April 18, 2018 before other stops around the U.S. Each pill depicts one of 50 faces of the 22,000 people who died as a result of opioids in 2015.When he was running for office, Trump pledged that he wouldn't accept his $400,000 annual presidential salary if elected.

"His decision to donate his salary is a tribute to his compassion, to his patriotism, and to his sense of duty to the American people," said HHS spokeswoman Caitlin Oakley."He has a sincere interest in public health issues to which HHS is going to devote his donation.

In January, Trump donated his salary to research at the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.. Although Trump doesn't drink alcohol, the issue is important to him because his brother, Fred, Jr. died of alcoholism-related causes in 1981. More than half of voters in Alaska say they tell people they do not support President Trump but in private agree with him on certain issues.
