Bruce Cockburn: 50 years of music, spirituality and social justice | SaltWireWhile everybody wanted to talk to Mattias Ekholm about his “closure” as he gets ready to play against his long-time Predators’ team in Nashville Tuesday, the first time since the Feb. 28 trade, how about Tyson Barrie?

Barrie has been traded before, from Colorado to Toronto in 2019, with Alexander Kerfoot for Nazem Kadri and other pieces. But, that was more expected because the Avs had a surplus of D-men.“Definitely surprised me. Mike Smith sent me a screen shot that said we got Ekholm and maybe he would be my D partner or something,” Barrie said.“I had signed in Edmonton with the intention I would play out my contract and win there, but it’s a business and things come at you quickly.

Barrie has been playing on the point on the Predators’ PP, paired with former Norris trophy winner and captain Roman Josi in a two-pronged blueline attack, while also on his own on the second PP. “Josi is a such a sweet guy, great leader. He reminds me of some of the great guys I’ve played with where they try to be the best versions of themselves every day. He’s a special talent,” he added.
