Hundreds of tourists camped inside Banff Gondola after lightning stripped its cable cars of power Monday evening.
Those stuck in the cars were “safely” dropped off using the gondola’s backup power by 10 p.m. while the remaining guests at the upper terminal spent the night at the centre, said Tanya Otis, director of media and communications at Pursuit, which owns Banff Gondola.Otis said the team provided the guests with food and blankets, making “everyone as comfortable as possible.”
However, a social media post by a visitor, published at 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday, said they were kept in the dark about the incident and were given food two hours after the outage was reported.THIS CONTENT IS RESERVED FOR SUBSCRIBERS ONLYUnlimited online access to articles from across Canada with one account and fewer ads.
