The biggest percentage jump in volume was crude petroleum which leaped 67.5 per cent to three million tonnes.

Crude petroleum and barley showed the most growth in volume shipped through the Port of Vancouver in 2018, according to statistics released on Thursday.

The bulk of material that goes through the port is exports , however, the data showed imports grew by almost 10 per cent in 2018, while exports grew 1.9 per cent. Diesel and fuel oils and aviation fuel also recorded big rises. The bulk of petroleum products are imported into B.C. The forest category was also steady, at 25.9 million tonnes. However, within that there was quite a bit of variance with log exports up 15 per cent to 9.7 million tonnes and waste paper volume down 33 per cent to 511,000 tonnes.
