A man is in critical condition and a suspect is in custody after a stabbing Saturday in Port Alberni.
Port Alberni RCMP say they were contacted about 4:30 p.m. regarding a stabbing in a building on 4th Avenue in the downtown area. They found a man with multiple stab wounds and transported him to hospital, because B.C. Emergency Health Services paramedics were busy on other calls and couldn’t attend right away.
“A police officer carried the victim out of the two-storey building and rode in the back seat while attempting to keep pressure on the victim’s wounds,” police said. A suspect was located and arrested for aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.“Our members made critical decisions and acted swiftly to get the victim the life-saving medical attention he needed,” said Insp. Kim Bruce.The suspect had a bail hearing Sunday and remains in custody pending further court proceedings.
