To address the theological implications, Francis also appointed Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime as co-leader, or “pro-prefect.” Despite the co-leadership, Brambilla is listed first as “prefect” in the Vatican bulletin, reflecting her primary role. The 59-year-old Brambilla, a member of the Consolata Missionaries, previously served as the No. 2 in the religious orders department.
