In 2022, a video showing riders going airborne as they slid over the bumps got a lot of attention online.Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel declared the footage his “clip of the year” for 2022, and invited a Detroit rapper who wrote a viral song about the slide — Gerald Allen, known professionally as Gmac Cash — to perform it onThe Michigan Department of Natural Resources temporarily closed the attraction, part of the Belle Isle state park, for the 2023 summer season.
Tom Bissett, Belle Isle Park’s district manager, told CBC Kids News the park was unable to operate the slide in 2023 due to a lack of staff and the need to replace the landing area to make it softer.
