The U.S. is resuming deportations to Cuba because the country is once again accepting deportation flights after stopping them during the pandemic. The U.S. isn’t deporting only Cubans. It continuously deports people from all over the world.
Authorities are unable to deport every person who is in the U.S. illegally, because of limited resources, so they prioritize certain groups for deportation. High on the priority list are people who recently arrived in the country and convicted criminals., according to data from the Pew Research Center. However, we found no evidence to support the claim that is why the Biden administration is deporting Cuban immigrants.
Cuba recently announced it will resume accepting Cuban nationals who have been deported from the United States. Cuba had stopped receiving deported Cubans during the pandemic. Even though Cuban-Americans tend to vote Republican, Cubans who are being deported are in the U.S. illegally and therefore not eligible to vote. We found no evidence that Cubans are being deported because of their political affiliation. Immigrants from all countries are deported if they are illegally in the United States.
