A section of 10th Avenue on the Burnaby-New Westminster border remains closed Wednesday morning after a serious crash Tuesday night.

B.C.’s police watchdog has been called in to investigate a serious accident on the Burnaby-New Westminster border.

A section of 10th Avenue between Second and Eighth streets remained closed Wednesday morning after a collision after 11 p.m. Thursday night. Photos of the scene show a white sedan with a damaged front end and a black compact car with a crushed passenger side.New Westminster Police told the NOW they were on scene for traffic control but that the incident was a transit police file.

The Independent Investigations Office, which investigates police-involved incidents that result in death or serious harm, confirmed it was investigating the crash but didn't provide any further information.The NOW has reached out to Metro Vancouver Transit Police and is waiting for more details about the incident, including any injuries involved.
