Police will provide an update this afternoon on the apparent random assault of a long-time CBC radio producer.

Michael Finlay died on Tuesday, one week after being shoved to the ground while walking along Danforth Avenue near Jones Avenue.

Police have previously said that the victim in the Jan. 24 assault sustained serious injuries but they have not confirmed whether his death was a result of those injuries. A new image of a suspect in the attack was released earlier this week after CBC said that Finlay died from “medical complications” following a “random assault.”

"Michael will be remembered as an exceptional story-teller, documentary-maker and editor,” CBC Spokesperson Chuck Thompson said at the time. “He travelled the world producing radio documentaries for several programs but most notably for Sunday Morning. If you worked on a documentary with Michael, you were experiencing the pinnacle of the craft."
