Two people were arrested for possession for the purpose of trafficking

Officers started a drug-trafficking investigation earlier in the day and got a warrant to search a home on Thunderbird Way, where they seized about 170 grams of illicit hard drugs, 900 grams of cannabis, illegal cigarettes, cash and weapons.

. Police said a report will be submitted to the Provincial Prosecution Service requesting charge approval. The Port Hardy RCMP detachment remains committed to improving public safety and disrupting the flow of illegal drugs into our community acting detachment commander Sgt. Trevor Busch said in a statement.

He said anyone with information regarding drugs or other criminal activity should contact the detachment. In March, the 1,100-member Gwa’sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw Nations around Port Hardy declared a state of emergency for the reserve following the deaths of 11 of its members, many of them youths, in the previous two months, in part because of toxic drugs.
