Saanich police released photos of a blue tent and sleeping bag in hopes of learning the identity of the man found dead

Saanich police are asking for help identifying a man found dead in a wooded area near Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary on Oct. 13.

Detectives in the Major Crime Unit say the man was 5-foot-10 and 160 pounds and lived in a two-toned silver and teal tent, with dark-blue tarp covering, near the intersection of Douglas Street and Haynes Road. There were several bicycles near the tent, but no personal items, police said. The B.C. Coroners Service is conducting its own investigation. Police said the death is not deemed suspicious.

“We know that this is somebody’s loved one, so we’re hoping anyone with information will come forward and speak with our investigators,” said Const. Markus Anastasiades. Investigators are asking anyone with information about the man’s identity to call Saanich police at 250-475-4321. Information can also be reported anonymously through Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-888-222-8477.
