: A French police officer and at least two other people were killed when a man armed with a knife attacked the city’s police headquarters before being shot dead.
Four people are dead including the assailant, who was shot dead by another officer following the attack at around 1pm local time. The attacker worked at the headquarters, local broadcaster BFM TVSeveral senior politicians travelled to the scene of the attack, including French president Emmanuel Macron, prime minister Edouard Philippe and interior minister Christophe Castaner.
The building, located just yards away from Notre Dame Cathedral in the center of Paris, was evacuated, while the nearby metro station was closed for “security reasons,” according to BFM TV. Images show the affected area on lockdown., police say the motive for the attack could be personal, and that there were no other attackers.Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo tweeted:"Paris is crying this afternoon over this frightening attack on [the police headquarters].
