The Oak Bay police officer who was the first cop on the scene of the murder of two young girls came under intense attack Tuesday by a lawyer for the accused killer.
A lawyer for a Victoria man accused of murdering his two young daughters suggested Tuesday that police were incompetent during their investigation of the case.
Ulanowski testified that he had had trouble pushing open the door to the suite but admitted that he had failed to make any notes of that difficulty. The officer, who testified that he left the scene to get help after noticing that there was blood on the walls and floors and that there appeared to be a dead girl in a room, said that he was left feeling “uncomfortable” by the scene.
McCullough suggested that Ulanowski was trying to cover up his incompetence with the idea that what he had seen had freaked him out.“Yeah, it freaked me out,” said Ulanowski. “I understand what you’re talking about,” said Ulanowski. “This was just something where we were brought in, it was offered to us for mental-health first aid.”McCullough said he was sure it wasn’t met maliciously but asked Ulanowski whether “Police Rules 101” applied to him.
