Toronto Police officers fatally shot a man inside a Scarborough home after a woman was stabbed and seriously injured on Saturday afternoon.
Toronto Police were called around 2:30 p.m. to a home in the Midland Ave.-Kingston Rd. area for a stabbing.At some point, police fired at the suspect, who was transported to hospital where he later died.
The woman was also rushed to hospital with serious injuries and is now in stable condition, police say.Toronto Police Chief James Ramer said there was an interaction between officers and the suspect, resulting in the suspect being shot.The Special Investigations Unit, which investigates events involving police that have resulted in death, serious injury or reports of sexual assault, has been brought in to investigate.
“The SIU is going to investigate the incident, the interaction, between the individual and the police. And then we will, at the same time, simultaneously investigate the original incident and the stabbing of the female,” Ramer said. “It’s a tragic incident when officers are having to deal with these situations and deal with individuals under any circumstances. And all deaths are tragic and it has a huge impact on the officers that are involved as well,” he added.Article content
