A Crown Point police dog was injured during an encounter with a suspect pulled over for speeding Sunday night.
A Crown Point police dog was injured after a suspect allegedly choked and gouged his eyes during a traffic stop Sunday night. At approximately 2:37 a.m., Officer Joe Osiecki observed a 2006 black Maserati driving 86 in a posted 45 mph zone in the 2100 block of North Main Street and attempted to initiate a traffic stop near 93rd Avenue and Main, according to a news release from the City of Crown Point.
Dave Wilkins then deployed K-9 Jack into the vehicle, the release stated. The driver allegedly gouged K-9 Jack’s eyes and grabbed him around the throat with both of his hands, leaving him briefly incapacitated and causing his eyes to roll to the back of his head. Wilkins ordered the driver to release the dog, but when the suspect refused, he began to struggle with the driver in an attempt to free the dog from the suspect’s grip, police said.
