This year's Pokémon Go Fest will be a virtual gathering. allowing millions across the globe to play – and to support Black game creators.
The other half will be used to benefit U.S. non-profit organizations supporting local communities rebuilding from the economic havoc wrecked by the coronavirus pandemic.
Beyond the fest, Niantic is letting players nominate real-life local businesses to be included as in-game destinations within Pokémon Go. The AR game uses smartphone cameras and GPS allowing players to hunt through the real-world to find Pokémon creatures. This time around, Niantic had to design event activities to be playable globally. The result, says Hanke, is a"fully first-of-its-kind virtual experience in gaming" that will let players"go outside and play and enjoy the outdoors, celebrate the summer and, of course, do so while practicing social distancing."
Ticket buyers can try to capture 75 special Pokémon, some old and some new."The majority will be previously released," said Michael Sterenka, director of marketing and global live events for Niantic."But as is standard with our live events, and Go Fest in particular, there are definitely some surprises that we have planned along the away. And also some Pokémon you may not normally be able to see in your region.
