Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is accusing the Liberal government of hiding economic analysis of its carbon pricing system, which he said would show Canadians the true cost of the carbon tax. During question period on Tuesday, Poilievre referenced recent comments from the Parliamentary Budget Officer regarding instructions he received from the federal government to not publicly disclose its internal carbon tax analysis.
In testimony provided to the House finance committee on Monday, PBO Yves Giroux said he had reviewed government documents that confirmed the watchdog’s investigation into the carbon tax, which determined the policy will cause negative economic impacts, but he was not allowed to reference it in his organization’s publicly available work.
