Plans are underway for the National Night Out in Richardson this fall.
This year’s event will feature block parties along with events at six city parks, including Richland Park, Yale Park, Creek Hollow Park, Mimosa Park, Durham Park and Heights Parks, the city said inA kick-off registration was held on Aug. 2 for planners of the Richardson event, which takes place during the evening of Oct. 4.
“The registration kick-off provides instruction and we also discuss plans for the upcoming celebration and give out specialty visits for each party,” Sgt. Michelle Hall of the Richardson Police Department said in a prepared statement. National Night Out, which is held annually in Texas on the first Tuesday in October, is designed to help build a sense of community as well as communication between neighbors and law enforcement.
It also offers an opportunity for police and neighbors to meet under positive circumstances, according to organizers. The nationally-held event typically includes outside lights and front porch vigils, as well as neighborhood events such as block parties, cookouts, visits from local officials and law enforcement, safety fairs and youth events.
